Thank you so much for stopping by! We are so glad you’re here. No matter where you are on your journey toward minimalism and sustainability, we hope you find great inspiration and encouragement in this online space.

I’m Bay, a mother and wife of six years who loves Jesus and is passionate about homesteading. My husband Giles and I are excited to be raising our kids on our mountain homestead in the high desert of New Mexico. We are constantly reassessing our use of time and resources and pursuing a more minimal lifestyle so we can focus on the things that matter most! And that’s exactly what we’d like to help you with!

Our world is suffering from consumerism and “throw-away” culture. We have become so used to everything we need being right at our disposal whenever we need it that we never really expect ourselves to be responsible in our use of resources. Giles and I believe that traditional and ancient methods of raising animals, growing and cooking your own food, and learning a variety of handicrafts is key to healing our world of the unhealthy dependence we have on consumerism.

I’m thankful for the opportunity we have to buy what we need at the click of a button, but we definitely could work a little harder at becoming more conscious of how we spend our money. We can begin to support small businesses instead of big box stores. We can learn to make and use sustainable products like tallow butter for our skin, and we can grow our own food in our backyards! All these things are keys to making the future a better place for our kids and ourselves.

A little about Bay

I was raised on a ranch before going off to college to study journalism. It was during my college years that I found myself yearning for a simpler life. Not long after that, I met my wonderful husband and we spent the next half-a-decade growing our family and putting down roots in our mountain home.

I began the Hardy House Homestead Instagram account and the podcast as a fun hobby, never really expecting it to go anywhere. Now, less than a year later, the instagram community has grown to over 25k and I’m just trying to keep up!

It is so much fun connecting with you and learning methods to live better with less stuff on our homestead! I’m better because of you!

How did Hardy House Homestead Get its Start?

I got the idea to start using our land for homesteading when the pandemic hit in 2020. Before that, I was too nervous to keep chickens or start a garden because I thought I would fail and didn’t want to be disappointed.  It’s amazing to think back on that because I’m now so thankful that the drastic culture switch kicked me into gear! Those fears were silly and I now realize I should have started earlier! That’s why I’m passionate about helping you get started.

I started exploring minimalism in 2018 and really got serious about it in the summer of 2019 when I was pregnant with our second boy. Learning to let go of material things has really changed my life! I believe minimalism can change your life just as much as homesteading can.

If you’re ready to begin your sustainable journey wherever you are, follow along with us and learn how to make your first steps! We’re sure you won’t regret it.
